What is Your Healthspan Mindset?


This is your opportunity to dream.  It’s a pure opportunity to ponder what you want to be able to participate in and enjoy in your future.  Nurture a mindset that inspires you to make choices based how you want to feel two years, five years, or even 20 years down the road of your life.  The possibilities are endless; you can craft the life you want with small “Start Somewhere” choices. I’m here to help you!


The average lifespan in the United States is approaching 80 years.  But that is not the relevant calculation. Your healthspan is what really matters.  Your healthspan is your number of healthy years - the years that you are zest-filled, the years that you have energy and vitality.  You are able to spend your time and money pursuing purpose, cultivating relationships, and savoring life. The gap between lifespan and healthspan is utterly shocking!  Unfortunately, the average American healthspan is currently calculated between 63 and 69 years.  That is avoidable!  Regardless of how you feel today or your current age, you can cultivate a longer healthspan.  



Your answers are your personal business!  I’ve recently completed a masters degree in Metabolic and Nutritional Medicine from MorsaniCollege of Medicine and am a nationally certified Health and Wellness Coach trained at Mayo Clinic.  I am convinced that setting your Healthspan Mindset is your first step to the life you’ve dreamed of. 1. What do I want to be able to do at this age?

2. Where do I want to travel and what physical capabilities will that require?

3. How do I want to feel when I wake up each morning?

4. What chronic diseases do I want to avoid?

5. What is my comfort level with taking prescription medications?

6. What kind of people do I want to spend my time with?

7. What makes me feel safe and secure?


Think about people you know who are actively enjoying life, unhindered by illness.  Pick an age and picture yourself at that point in your own life.  Get a pen and a pad of paper to brainstorm your answers to these seven questions:


Your most important consideration is to first establish a proper mindset - a correct framework for your decisions.  With that firm foundation, your resolve builds and many of the distractions disappear. You then know what direction you are headed and your navigation becomes much clearer.


My 33-plus years of clinical dental practice have been my “front-row seat” for observing life.  People don’t plan to have a short healthspan; life just happens before they spend much time thinking about it.  Then it can feel like it is too late. We may have the best intentions of making more beneficial choices but are too easily overwhelmed and discouraged by the “whats” and “hows” of getting healthy.  That observation sent me back to school about five years ago. I’m committed to helping people craft their most vibrant healthspan possible! It need not be stressful.
